Sunduk. Painted wooden chest Middle Atlas

A very original cedar wood -sunduk- or chest from the Morrocan Middle Atlas range. Its shows arches which recall to the ones in the neighbouring region of Tahzout, features a basic but colourful painted decoration very characteristic of the Atlas mountains Berbers. This kind of pieces of furniture is used by the bride to keep her trousseau and other personal belongings such as jewellery. Mid-XXth century.
