A beautiful silver ring from Mauritania. It is decorated with black enamel, wonderful silver granulation and a slice of an old six-layer Murano glass -chevron- bead. This kind of ring is quite characteristic of the area of Goulimine in Sout6hern Morocco and Mauritania. In fact, sometimes this sort of arrangement and the way the slice of bead is used is referred to as -gem- or -pearl- from Goulimine. These beads were very much valued in Africa since the XVIth century and were used as trade beads. Mid-XXth century or earlier.

Dutch chevron glass beads are produced in the eighteenth century in the city of Amsterdam in order to imitate rock crystal and other precious stones in the trade with the African and American colonies.
