A beautiful silver ring from Mauritania. It is decorated with black enamel, wonderful silver granulation and a slice of an old six-layer Murano glass -chevron- bead. This kind of ring is quite characteristic of the area of Goulimine in Sout6hern Morocco and Mauritania. In fact, sometimes this sort of arrangement and the way the slice of bead is used is referred to as -gem- or -pearl- from Goulimine. These beads were very much valued in Africa since the XVIth century and were used as trade beads. Mid-XXth century or earlier.

An old Tuareg silver and agate ring. This type of ring is worn by those who have been to Mecca on pilgrimage (hadji). Stones such as agate are believed among the Tuareg to afford protection to its owner. Lovely patina. The Tuareg are a nomadic Berber (amazigh) group that lives in the Sahara Desert.

The Fulani people, also known as Fula, Peul or Fulbe, among other, are an ethnic group that inhabits many countries, mainly in Western Africa, Mauritania and Mali. They are probably the largest nomadic group in the world.  Mid-XXth century.

A beautiful and rare antique silver ring from Afghanistan. Its singularity lies in the ancient so-called Dutch chevron glass bead in the central cabochon that would have usually had a stone attached.

Dutch chevron glass beads are produced  in the eighteenth century in the city of Amsterdam in order to imitate rock crystal and other precious stones in the trade with the African and American colonies.
