A supern cedarwood chest from the Rif region in Northern Morocco. Its shows a wonderful natural dyes painted decoration showing a row of arches reminding the mihrab of mosques, vegetal and flower motifs very characteristic from that region. It also has a small inner lidded compartment. However not all its panels are painted as it was common to decorate only those parts exposed. These pieces of furniture or -sunduk- were also named wedding chests as they were presented to the bride to keep her trousseau and other personal belongings such as jewellery. A piece that has become harder to find. A true gem. First half of XXth century.
